Hoeness: Klopp agreed to coach Bayern in 2008, but Rummenigge insisted on Klinsmann
Bayern Honorary Chairman Hoeness recently revealed in an interview with OMR Podcast the reason why Klopp failed to coach Bayern in 2008. Hoeness revealed: "When Klopp left Mainz, I called him on Christmas Eve and asked him if he would like to come to work at Bayern." Klopp agreed in principle to the proposal, but the situation subsequently changed, and Rummenigge insisted on choosing Klinsmann. Hoeness said that his situation at the time was very embarrassing, so he had to confess to Klopp in early January 2008: "This put me in a very difficult situation, and I had to convey this to Klopp. I admitted to him that I was said by Rummenigge. After being convinced, he decided to hire Klinsmann, which was a risky decision. " Facts also proved that this was a wrong decision with far-reaching consequences. Klinsmann was fired after only 10 months of coaching Bayern, while Klopp grew into a world-class coach at Dortmund.
