Recently, McGrady participated in Arenas' program "The Arena" and talked about her experience in competing for the scoring champion with Kobe.

He said: "In the 2002-03 season, I felt that I was at the peak. I was incredible in all aspects. During that time, I could score 20 points in half and it was like this every night. It was incredible. I was also paying attention to the situation in the West at that time. Kobe's data was crazy at that time. I knew he must be trying to compete with me for the scoring champion. Brother, he has Shaq. I thought, 'How could he still score so many points? Why do he still score so hard? Pass the ball to O'Neal, brother.'"

"That guy scored about 9 consecutive 40 points. I followed closely at the time and scored 30, 35, and 40 points in a single game, but I couldn't get 40 points in nine consecutive games. I thought, 'Brother, you're all competing for the championship, don't grab the scoring champion, leave me a way out.' So, I'm fully focused and must win the title of scoring champion."

In the 2002-03 season, McGrady averaged 32.1 points per game, Kobe's second in the 30.0 points, and O'Neal's fourth in the 27.5 points.
